Gonna buy a gas powered generator for my snowie 3000. Anyone know what this 3/4 hp motor needs for total wattage?

Thanks

nalacob,

If you are just using the shaver on the generator, I suggest that you have at least a 5500 watt generator. Also, you will want to run as short of cords as possible. The further you are from the generator, the more powerful one I would buy.

Thank you for your question and sorry for the delayed response. I have been out of town for a bit and have not been able to keep up.

Thanks again,

Aaron Rupp

If using a generator on the 3000 is it best to have it on its own circuit, isolated from any other appliances?

We run a 7000 watt generator and its great. We can run our entire truck on it without any issues. We run everything into a heavy duty power strip and run the power strip into the generator. We are able to run on a 100 ft cord to the generator without any issues. We haven't tested anything longer. Currently, we run a 3000, popcorn machine, freezer, fan and lights without issue.

We have successfully run on a 5500 with a 100 ft cord with the Snowie 3000 and fan only. If we ran any other appliances, we had issues with the Snowie if we had a full hopper. Also, I noticed a decrease in speed when the other appliances were plugged in. My issue may have been with the cord length or the generator wattage...not sure.

Hope this helps. Let us know how things work for you.

We actually use a 5500 watt generator whenever we want to run the 3000. Technically, the shaver will pull 12 amps. If you times that by 110 it will give you the total watts. This obviously totals 1320 watts, so it raises the question, "why then are you using a 5500 watt generator?"

The reason for this is because your shaver has what are called cranking amps. This is when the motor is just beginning to turn. As you know, it is very rare that a snowie shaver actually reaches a point where the motor is just turning at a regular rate. You are actually always using your shaver in a cranking period. This puts your amps more realistically around 20, thus putting your amps in the area of 2200.

Now there is quite a gap between the 2200 and the 5500 Watts, and I can't say that I know the reason why, but I have tried to use a 2500 and a 3000 watt generator a couple times, and it still brings the 3000 shaver to its knees.

I while ago I was looking to buy a generator for my home and found that these companies have different ways of declaring their specs. Basically, I found that if you were buying a 5000 watt generator, you were really buying a generator that was producing 2500 watts. I understood it at the time, but to tell you the truth, I can't remember the reasoning behind that anymore.

I know this is a long answer, but when I tell people that they should buy at least a 5000 watt generator, they begin to do the math and ask why.

I hope this helps a bit,

Aaron
